World Teachers Day gift

World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity to celebrate and thank Queensland teachers for their important role in our communities and for the positive impact they have on the lives of students. Queensland celebrates World Teachers’ Day annually on the last Friday in October.

Our teachers do so much for our children, that I love to really take this opportunity to thank them and recognise the effort they put in. As you will know, I love a DIY craft project that is both simple and effective. I saw this idea on Red Ted Art last year and replicated it for our Prep teachers, and I knew it would be perfect again this year for our male Year One teacher (especially because male teachers are SO MUCH harder than female teachers to buy for!!). This year I documented my process step by step to share with you!

What you need:

  • I used a 2L LA Ice Cola bottle – I find this is the roundest bottle available that really helps the finished product to look like an apple. Other bottles are too elongated.
  • Stanley knife and scissors
  • Red tissue paper
  • Green craft paper (or white paper coloured green to look like a leaf)
  • Special treats for inside! We used a Teacher’s stamp, mini higlighters, some lollies and an Amazon Gift Card.

Step 1: Clean out your bottle and remove the label

Step 2: Using a Stanley knife, cut your bottle in half

Step 3: Using your scissors, trim each part down until you have removed about 5cm of the middle and the top part comfortably sits over the top of the bottom part, like the picture below.

Step 4: Use a sheet of red tissue paper to line the bottom half of your apple. Put your special treats inside. Line the top half of the apple with red tissue paper and place the two parts together. Use a small amount of clear sticky tape to hold it together.

Cut a leaf shape out of your green paper and use this as a gift tag for your child to write a message on! Then stick it to your apple with sticky tape.

Some other gifts to try

I’ve rounded up 3 other cute ideas for World Teachers Day gifts that I also love that you might want to give a try!

This fun little FREE printable lets your child tell their teacher just how much and why they appreciate them!

Personalised cookies are always a popular teacher’s gift. Why not take yours up one notch and include this FREE printable gift tag.

I love a personalised, DIY gift that is actually practical! Even if you’re not a green thumb, seed bombs are the easiest things around to create AND use, so these make a very sweet gift.
