Community centres across the Gold Coast tend to get overlooked, but for parents looking to connect with other parents, or spend time with their children in a facilitated group – this is where many of the amazing playgroups are held! As an added bonus, most of our community centres also have a great playground attached (see here for the Ormeau and Runaway Bay community centres). The Studio Village Community Centre at Oxenford is home to two great playgroups, a fenced playground, bike park and community garden.
The fenced playground is hidden around the back of the community centre, but here you’ll find a huge grassy field very popular for playing ball sports, with a fun playground and a great bike park. The playground has two play structures, both easily accessible for younger children, and packed with features. The playground is older in style, but while it isn’t as flashy as some of the new parks, the kids will still love to play here.
The bike park is a hidden gem! There is a pathway around the entire green space designed specifically for bikes, but also a smaller section by the playground includes features to test riders agility and skills. Weave quickly through the Bike Slalom, ride over the bridges, balance over the beams… these skill testers will be perfect for those capable of riding on two wheels, but those with trikes or training wheels can still have some fun.
Along the back wall of the community centre you’ll find a small community garden and a chicken coop, all lovingly maintained by volunteers at the centre. Volunteers run a number of programs at the centre, specifically playgroups ideal for Gold Coast parents. These are some great opportunities to meet other families and get out and do something fun with the kids.
