The Ormeau Community Library is one of our favourite libraries on the Gold Coast to visit with children. Originally known as Book Box, this library was dedicated to our 0-5 year olds and jam packed with engaging opportunities for our little ones. After a few changes, it is now known as the Ormeau Community Library, which encompasses the old Book Box and also includes a range of books for children aged 5-12, teenagers and adults.
The Ormeau Community Library is not a place where you need to worry about the kids being quiet. Encouraged to engage in the many games and play resources, you can often find the librarian joining in on a tea party or building a tower of blocks! The kids love to play with everything on offer, and it gives the parents a chance to browse for books or chat to other parents. The librarians all have a background in early years learning, and they are full of incredibly helpful information – whether it be speech development, books for early readers or helping new readers find their way… if you have a question about the early years they will be sure to help you get your answer!
The Family Time programming is also on offer at the Ormeau Community Library, with Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time and Storytime all on offer. Unlike the other Gold Coast libraries, these sessions are all 9.30am starts, which feedback indicates is well liked for ensuring those midday naps aren’t missed!
The Ormeau Community Library is located inside the Ormeau Community Centre, which is also home to a great fully fenced playground and toilets! Next door within an easy stroll is the Norfolk Village Shopping Centre, where you’ll find a Coles, McDonalds, coffee shop, bakery and newsagents, so you can easily grab a coffee and a bite to eat and take it over to the playground too!
