Harley Park is located on the Broadwater at Labrador, and is a bustling hive of activity any day of the week. With a swimming lagoon, pelicans, picnic facilities and two playgrounds, this is a very popular family destination.
The larger playground is located at the main carpark, alongside Charis Seafoods, and being fully fenced it caters more for the younger children. A nautical themed ship playground, all the equipment is easily accessible for little legs and the ground is sand, perfect for any small tumbles. There is a second, climbing-inspired playground with poles, ropes, ladders and a flying fox only about 100m further north, for those who are older.
What is perfect about Harley Park is that it is RIGHT. ON. THE. WATER. The views are spectacular, and it’s the perfect spot to pull up a picnic blanket and enjoy some fish and chips. If you’re there around 1.30pm each day, you can even watch as staff from Charis Seafood feed the local pelicans -it’s quite a sight!
When the pelicans aren’t being fed, Ian Dipple Lagoon is a great place to go for a swim. Protected by a large sandbank, this lagoon is wave free and perfect for little ones. There are shower and toilet facilities along the shore as well, making the pack up easy. In the evenings, the lagoon is floodlit, so it’s also a great spot for dinner time fish and chips. For those who are more interested in playing in the sand, at the northern end of the lagoon there are a couple of play boats to hop in and pretend you’re sailing off to go fishing!
If you’re looking for a spot to catch up for a walk, this is definitely the walker’s super-highway. The Labrador Heritage Walk footpath runs along the waterfront and is just under 2km long one way. You’ll find avid power walkers pounding the pavement all day long. Why not grab a coffee and join them?
