Charles Holm Park is a great place to get the whole family together! If you’re looking for somewhere with plenty of wide open space, picnic facilities, a playground for the kids and ample parking – this is it. Picnics, parties, playdates – this spot caters for it all.
Set alongside the Coomera River, this is a popular spot for launching boats and you’ll see boats and jetskis zipping up and down the river all day long. You can park in the main carpark, or if this is busy there is ample parking on the street all the way along the length of the park. Next to the carpark you’ll find the toilet block, picnic shelter, BBQs and a boiling water tap – all essentials for a good picnic!
The park then opens up to the play space. A concrete basketball court is there for the older kids, a playground for the little kids, a big grassy field to run about on, and a swing set with some spinners tops it all off. A great pathway loops around the entire park, perfect for riding bikes and scooters.
For those who are looking for some water play, there is a small sandy stretch next to the boat ramp where you can splash your feet, however swimming is in the designated area about 300m down the pathway. This is probably one of the few downsides about this park – the swimming area is quite removed from the picnic and play areas unfortunately, however don’t let this stop you from making a day out of it! There is a small picnic shelter next to the swimming beach, but you’ll need to head back to the main picnic area to access the toilets, BBQs and carpark.
What we loved about this park was the wide open space and the abundance of shade (unfortunately there is no shade over the playground however). It had a really nice feel about it, buzzing with activity but not crowded with people. For those with little children, be warned that the path does go along the river in some spots and there is a drop of about a metre without a railing, so supervision is necessary.
This would be an ideal place to gather the family or host a children’s birthday party – or even just drop by for a play and a walk!
