Bim’bimba Park means Place of the Soldier Bird, and is located at the centre of Gainsborough Greens, Pimpama. This park truly is a destination in itself, and was awarded the 2020 Best Park and Playground Design for all of Queensland!
Set up as a community space, this park encompasses a large outdoor amphitheatre, toddler play space, playground, teen hangout and basketball court – all connected by a series of entwining paths perfect for bike riding. Some of the highlights for us included the metal music gong, the animal sculptures and the spinning wheel.
We loved how everything is spread out at this park, and with lots of little spaces for different types of play, the park really encourages exploration and the use of imagination. We found that a lot of the play equipment is centred around climbing however, which made a lot of the equipment unsuitable for toddlers. There is a dedicated toddler play space, but this also is focused on climbing and for those not so great on their feet, it may prove too difficult for them. If your child is a climber though – this park is for them!! There are so many things to balance on, climb through and over, and hang from, you could easily make up some ninja warrior courses here.
The park relies on shade from trees, which are still quite small, so definitely bring a hat and avoid the middle of the day. Shade sails are over the toddler area and the base of the mega slide. There are plenty of picnic shelters and water taps around to help cool down. There are no cafes on site, however there is a McDonald’s across the road for anyone needing a coffee fix or a cold drink.
This is going to be one of those parks drawing the crowds for years to come!
