Bamboo Down Under at Wongawallan is a garden centre with a difference. The perfect weekend outing, here you can explore a species garden, meditation garden, labyrinth, sensory garden and bamboo tunnel, and get bamboozled in the bamboo maze!
Bamboo Down Under started as a small family business and is now the leading supplier of bamboo in Retail and Wholesale within Australia. They’ve also been awarded the “Best Specialist Garden Centre in Queensland” at the Nursery & Garden Industry Awards in the past!
Start in the Species Garden, where the kids can take on the Scavenger Hunt to discover the hidden pandas, all the while having a look at some incredible ornamental species of bamboo. The Species Garden then leads on to the Bamboo Maze, where you have to figure out the right path to the other side. Those who succeed will find themselves passing the Sensory Garden and on to the Rainforest Walk, a very peaceful stroll through a forest of enormous bamboo varieties. Dotted throughout are information signs about bamboo, little panda ornaments and other garden statues. You’ll soon come across the labyrinth and the Bamboo Tunnel, keep an eye out for dinosaurs! Don’t miss the enchanted hollow at the end of the Tunnel.
Of course, there is also the main garden centre, with plenty of varieties of bamboo and other plants to browse and purchase if you are looking for a new addition to the garden. It’s free to visit the garden centre and display gardens, so even if you’re not purchasing, it’s great for some garden inspiration.
