Tucked away in Murwillumbah you’ll find the Tweed Regional Museum which showcases the natural and social history of the Tweed area. This is a small but modern museum, filled with fun and engaging exhibits, including two permanent and one that changes seasonally. It’s FREE to visit, and a great spot to spend a morning with the kids.
The first permanent exhibit is Land | Life | Culture, which shares unique cultural, biological, and geological stories that shape life in the Tweed Valley. The exhibition introduces the extraordinary richness of this environment and of life in the Tweed, including a touchscreen animation of the Wollumbin/Mount Warning shield volcano and how it has shaped the landscape over millions of years. The second permanent exhibit is the Adrian Smith Mineral Collection, containing over 500 mineral specimens and 300 gemstones, and a stunning collection of thunder eggs that tell the story of the molten lava that once flowed through the area over 20 million years ago.
Don’t miss out on the range of workshops, Museum Up Late sessions and school holiday activities that are on offer, with an ever changing line up of guest presenters.
The museum is open Tuesday – Saturday and entry is free.
